Why this SOP matters

A well-configured batch workflow ships 100 orders in 30 minutes. A poor one ships 100 orders in 3 hours. The 2.5-hour difference is real ops cost every day.

Step-by-step SOP

1. 1

   Create batch filters by product category or warehouse

   Don't batch all orders together. Group by what gets pulled from same location.

   Set batch size at 25-50 orders

   Below 25 wastes the batch advantage. Above 50 creates pick list complexity.

   Configure batch order in pick-list order

   ShipStation can sort batch by warehouse aisle. Saves walking time during pick.

   Print pick list before labels

   Pick first, then label. Reduces mis-labeled orders.

   Verify all labels print before closing batch

   If 2 labels fail in a 50-label batch, those 2 orders sit unshipped. Catch immediately.

   Tag batch in Shopify for tracking

   Batch ID added to each order as a tag. Enables tracking which orders shipped together.

   Run end-of-day batch close

   Notify carriers of final batch count for pickup. Avoid carriers rejecting late pickups.

   Measure orders-per-hour rate

   Track over time. If batches are taking longer than 6 months ago, something broke in the workflow.
