Influencer Payout Process SOP

Influencer programs grow from 5 creators to 50 fast. Spreadsheet payout tracking that worked at 5 breaks at 50. Late payments damage relationships. Wrong payments invite disputes. This SOP defines the workflow so payouts run on rails.

Who needs this SOP

DTC brands paying 10+ creators per month. Critical above 30 creators.

Why this matters

Creators talk to each other. Brands that pay late or wrong get blacklisted from creator communities. The cost of getting payouts wrong is reputation, not just dollars.

Step-by-step SOP

  1. 1

Define payout cadence: net 15 or net 30

Net 15 builds reputation as a fast-paying brand. Net 30 is fine if communicated upfront.

  2. 2

    Verify post completion before payout

Screenshot or link to live post. Without proof, payment can be premature.

  3. 3

Capture creator tax forms (W-9 US, equivalent international)

Required for 1099 reporting at year-end. Collect at onboarding, not payout time.

  4. 4

Centralize creator records in one tool

Aspire, Grin, or Notion database. Spreadsheets break above 30 creators.

  5. 5

Set up payment method per creator

Most prefer Stripe or PayPal. Wire only for above $1000. Document preferred method.

  6. 6

    Process payouts in batches

Weekly or biweekly cycle. Reduces operational overhead vs ad-hoc.

  7. 7

    Send payout confirmation email

Amount, post reference, expected arrival. Manages creator expectations.

  8. 8

    Track payout against post performance

Did the post drive expected engagement? Use data for next campaign sizing.

  9. 9

    Year-end tax reporting

Generate 1099s for US creators above $600 threshold. Send by January 31.

FAQ

What payout cadence is industry standard?

Net 30 is standard. Net 15 is fast and builds reputation. Net 60+ is dangerous, you'll lose creators.

When do I need a creator management platform?

30+ active creators. Below that, structured spreadsheet works. Above, you need software.

Do I owe 1099s for international creators?

No, only US creators above $600 annually. International tax handling varies by country.
